This record was made to document a moment in 2011 when Andrew Feldman and I decided to record a few tunes we'd been hammering out in the woodshed of his living room down in Kansas City. Raw and gritty like the roadhouses, taverns and bars; loud, sparse and traveling light, guitar driven and drum heavy to cut through the din with an urgency insisting on giving my lyrical songs and poems a vehicle to vent themselves of the Mystical Enchantments of Love and Loss... of the Paradoxical Natures of Addiction and Desire... The Kansas City area is rich with some of the best Blues Bands and Blues Players anywhere, but by definition we aren't a Blues Band although we have some Blues songs, neither are we a Country Music Band although we have some Country songs. You might say I experiment with Blues and Country which may put this CD in the Singer/Songwriter category. Anyway as sound goes, Red Dirt is probably as close to a definition for this music as any. Google Red Dirt Music and you'll find a genre as broad as the Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas prairie. It gets its name from the color of the dirt in and around where it started, Stillwater Oklahoma, and from there spread south into Texas. We call this music Kansas City born and bred, Northern Red Dirt.
